Amber's film works, together with the photographs of collective member Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen, have been inscribed in the UNESCO UK Memory of the World Register.
Since 1968, Amber's documentaries and dramas, together with its photographic work, have charted a unique engagement with communities in the north east of England. Amber's film archive also includes a wealth of associated footage and works by other filmmakers.
With the support of the British Film Institute and Northern Film & Media, Amber has extended its film archive catalogue and has been developing its programme of digitisation. Amber-online now gives access to this wider catalogue and, through the Your Film Archives search facility, the opportunity to explore the BFI and the regional film archives.
Digitisation of the archives films and videos is continuing to deliver new DVDs - check the Online Shop - and new works to webcast in the monthly changing programmes of SideTV.
Amber: Completed Films includes all of the released documentaries, dramas and feature films, including the videos created by Amber's Current Affairs Unit in the 1980s. Unreleased Film & Video includes Amber's extensive research footage and the Umatic video documentation that fed into the Current Affairs projects and some films. It includes projects developed around Side Gallery's photographic exhibitions and the documentary filming that didn't end up in finished films. Other Filmmakers includes a number of rare works by Amber's friends and associates. We will shortly be adding the details of the digitised VHS archive of the Workshop Movement, in which Amber was an active member.
